An example of the cost-savings provided by innovative use of wireless technologies can be seen in the recent city-wide installation of an automated water meter reading system in New York City. The new wireless equipment the city installed is said to “end the use of estimated water bills, giving homeowners and small businesses more accurate and timely records of usage and could save residents more than $90 million annually and could support the retention or creation of more than 550 jobs in New York City”.
